Hi there, My name is Jemma and back in 2018 I was a Chemistry teacher.
Growing up, I loved school. My teachers were inspiring, my classes were fun. I couldn’t wait to go every day. I did well too – gaining acceptance at Oxford University to study biochemistry. So when the idea of teaching was suggested as a career, I was all in. I returned to Oxford University, gained a scholarship from the Royal Society of Chemistry and prepared to be an amazing teacher!
Thats me in the pink dress.

But as I quickly came to realise, teaching was not for me. I loved teaching, but there was a lot about the job that I didn’t like:
-
Trying to get children to engage.
-
Class control.
-
The ridiculous admin.
-
The demanding SLT.
-
The parents who do not support you.
-
Getting home exhausted every night, never able to see friends or family (that’s me coming home after teaching).
